About UK Energy Data
Free, live figures on what Britain's grid is generating, how clean it is and what it costs.
What it does
Public data from the bodies that run and regulate Britain's grid, as live charts and plain tools. The dashboard shows what is generating now and the grid's frequency; Green Signal finds the cleanest hours for your postcode; the region map plays through the day; records tracks the best since 2017. The tools cover Agile prices, the price cap, your bill and net zero.
Where the numbers come from
Live figures come from public APIs, some straight to your browser and the Carbon Intensity ones through a short-lived cache on our server, and refresh every few minutes. If a source fails, the page says so; it never fills the gap with invented numbers. The price cap, emissions and carbon budgets are updated by hand, and every page names its source and period. The data sources page shows which source feeds which page, and how we get the numbers explains the methods, when each hand-kept figure was last checked, and every correction.
Articles
Articles in Insights and Energy saving are drafted by a language model running on our own computer, using only the past week's data. An article that uses any figure not in that data is sent back for rewriting, and dropped if it still does.
Coverage and independence
England, Scotland and Wales; Northern Ireland runs on the all-island market and is not included. The site is independent of NESO, National Grid, Elexon, Ofgem and Octopus Energy. Check your supplier's rates before changing tariff, and tell us if you spot a mistake.
Corrections
If you think a figure here is wrong, email info@ukenergydata.co.uk with the page and what you expected to see. We reply within two working days and check it against the original source. If we were wrong, we fix it and say so on the page: what changed, and the date. A monthly report is never silently rewritten; a corrected report keeps a note of the original figure. If the source itself was wrong or has since been revised, we say that too. Live figures follow their sources as they are revised, so a half hour can change after it first appears; that is not a correction. Every correction is listed in the corrections log.
